IOF: Our Institute

by | 10-05-2013 01:40 recommendations 0

Today, I'm going to introduce you all my friends about IOF, the institute where I'm studying.

IOF stands for Institute of Forestry. The Institute of Forestry is only the institute in the Nepalese land for training middle and high quality professionals in forestry and natural resource management (NRM). It was started as the Nepal Forestry Institute (NFI) in Singh Darbar in 1947. Singh Darbar is the center of administrative power in Nepal. Later, NFI was relocated to Bhim Phedi from 1957-58 and again in Hetauda in 1965 for better physical facilities. This translocation to Hetauda was facilitated by Indian Cooperation Mission (ICM). The institute was managed by Department of Forest (DOF) until July 1972 when it was incorporated into Tribhuwan University (TU). Later, IOF started its new era by relocating its central campus in Hariyo Kharka, Pokhara in 1981. The Infrastructures in this central campus was developed under the technical and financial assistance of The World Bank, International Development Agency (IDA), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and international Tropical Timber Organization. Currently, IOF operates in 3 campuses, Pokhara and Hetauda  campuses are  under Government authority and KAFCOL in Kathmandu is under private ownership.

Now, Pokhara Campus and KAFCOL is affiliated with Tribhuwan University (TU) while Hetauda is affiliated with newly established Agriculture and Forestry University of Nepal.
