The department of road has received the permission to chop this huge number of trees from the related authority i.e. department of Forest. In addition, department of forest is going to provide technical assistance to cut these trees and to best manage them as well. Here I?m badly surprised that how a responsible government body can give such destructive permission ignoring the highly trumpeting issue of green development.
The trees which are adding the beauty to Kathmandu city were planted in the decade of 1970 as per the green belt program of GoN. However, after a year these trees are going to be converted into chair and cupboard decorating the rooms of people rather than decorating the beauty of whole city.
Bird conservationists are arguing that such permission to demolish trees is going to make homeless to more than 100 species of birds. According to the studies as many as 110 bird species are found in Kathmandu and more than 100 species are found of having nest in the trees which are going to be cut very soon.
Actually, it is not only the concern of bird conservationists rather it is the concern of all who want to live their life. Indeed, greenery is very necessary in Kathmandu city so as to ensure healthy air supply. Therefore, let us raise our voice to 1) conserve the standing trees, if the authorities want, it is not a big deal to save these woody friends. 2) If the GoN can?t fulfill the point first, it must ensure that trees would be replaced once the construction works are over.
If the GoN choose the second option, experts suggests to plant local tree species of Nepal like Chilaune, Kattus, Lapsi etc so as to conserve our own biodiversity. They are suggesting not using exotic species introduced from foreign lands. (^_^)

Governments need to think long term and not just about immediate gains.

Sure, Nepal's the biggest engine for economic growth can be tourism coming from its beautiful nature. Thus keeping the nature is never a minus investment in case of Nepal! :)

Sorry to hear that...there must be another way to preserve trees as well as develop the roads. Even though this costs much but it deserves to spend more budget!

its very disappointing situation and then how the government think about the future it true that there is no any precaution taken after that serious issue because in Africa we do have a motion of cut a tree plant trees so i think they should do it in other hands to prevent the future
