Tree of Hope at Brandenburger Tor |
---|
During the 1st World Youth Summit, We went to Brandenburg Tor, One of the Most visited place in Berlin. We with Youths from all over the World helped, under the guidance of artists, to make a large tree that attracts attention out of garbage such as scrap material, and materials which have been washed ashore. This tree is a metaphorical denunciation of our self destructive ways of living and a reminder that we should live in harmony with nature and not at its cost. Seemingly useless and carelessly discarded !--object--s find another use with the tree. They became useful materials. Youths from around the world brought this tree back to life in Berlin. They filled this foliage with life, furnishing its leaves with wishes, demands and suggestions. This is Their Appeal to the Society: "Let Rethink about Eco-social changes and more global, social justice towards new ways to a life that is worth living more sustainable for everybody. Let us bring our ideas and be a part of the leaves of the 'Tree of Hope', which is a symbol for a common, sustainable future of peace and freedom". The tree and its unique position in Berlin established a place of dialogue and intensive exchange of thoughts. Youthinkgreen, the Executing Organization documented how, during the 1st World Youth sustainability Summit, new leaves constantly grew on our tree, how number of wishes, propositions and demands of everybody makes it always more green. In the End, the tree was a striking image of international demands and concerns that are addressed in particular to climate and sustainability politicians from every country. The Tree provides the ground for youth to become active and establish connections. The appeal to decision makers is clear: Take us seriously! We want to participate and shape the decisions for the Future! |
