At the same time people are making an every day effort to fight environmental crimes, there are those who perpetrate them.

I've made a list of some of the most recent notorious industries which have unconscientiously turned a profit at the expense of the environment its occupants.

 

 

Axpo

- Swiss electric supply company

- Secretly bought uranium from Russia?s Mayak reprocessing

   plant for many years

   -> Mayak is among the world?s most radioactively contaminated

       sites, second only to Chernobyl.

   -> Cancer rates and miscarriages in local population above

        average.

   -> Many children born with serious disabilities.

 

- Yet, Axpo declares itself a green company with nuclear plants

   that produce "clean" electricity.

- Swiss nuclear operators had obscured the true provenance

    of fuel. 

     -> independent researches blew their cover and Axpo

         admitted it

  

"The fact that the most devastating environmental crimes are committed in remote locations such as Mayak does not absolve the Swiss nuclear operator from its moral and material responsibility."
