Preservatives in Wet Wipes

by | 14-02-2016 00:44 recommendations 0

Most of you have ever used wet wipes, which is very convenient for cleaning up instantly. Unfortunately, however, this wet wipes are not just simple combination of water and wipes, but include certain preservatives.  If you simply put water on wipes without adding any preservatives, it will soon gather mold.  You may have seen the pictures of certain fast food hamburger that has never be rotten for more than 10 years.

There are many types of preservatives in wet wipes, some of them are the same kinds of the humidifier disinfectant that I reported here in Tunza last year, some of them are known as cancerous materials such as formaldehyde and some of them are fluorescent whitening agent and xylan.  Because wet wipes are widely used particularly for babies and little kids, more and more parents have become concerned about using such preservatives.  In Korea a few years ago, there were many reports about skin rash after using wet wipes and this was the starting point to capture people?s attention on the preservatives. Recently there are many naturally made wet wipes without such preservatives introduced in the market in Korea and eventually the Korean government enacted the law to prevent such toxic preservatives from being used in wet wipes.  Now wet wipes are no more categorized as general merchandise, but as cosmetics so that more restrictive standards for adding preservatives will be applied to wet wipes.  However, the experts still recommend that parents check out the types preservatives on the back of the package of wet wipes before purchasing.

Natural products are any time better than these synthetic products which have chemicals & carbon footprint as well.
Wet wipes are one of them that may be avoided as much as possible.

Thanks for an informative post. As much as possible , we should stay away from such things which are not necessity and are suspected /known to have any kind of chemical /preservative. Cloth towels are the best and eco-friendly too.
