Organic Nepal : Vision 2030

by Sujan Adhikari | 24-02-2016 11:47 recommendations 0

Our Problem

Problem exists in our feeding, not in malnutrition. Government has guaranteed our food must be safe, free of poison and promote health.

Farmers must sell products to earn their livelihood. But pesticides are used in random way. Only research doesn?t work. Transporter also uses fungicides to induce increase in post harvest loss. So, all marketing chain is using pesticides. Monitoring should be done on every level. The way we are going is not better so, its time to change.

There are many organic farmers who are practicing since years. Use of pesticides had affected food security.

There are big holes in policy. There lie gaps between the implementation of government and signatory.

Who need to act?

This is layer we need to act on organic farmers, cause we are educated manpower and as a youth it?s upon us to act. We had figured out many mistakes in our farming, now we are realizing and its time to act.

In past, we lack sufficient manpower, educated manpower but now we have sufficient people to move on, make this our own issue and work on. And we are educated enough to fight against pesticide farming. It?s our responsibility to act on this issue properly and provide farmers with healthy knowledge to produce healthy and live healthy.

So, we organized this program for brainstorming of youth agriculturist and synthesis of ideas, activities and act on them properly. Innovator farmers will tie with us to move forward and make our vision come true.  Organic farming will go deep with support of these National heroes.

Can we make our country Nepal organic by 2030?

It?s on our time and it?s our vision. Our mission is structural management by 2020. Organic farming is advantageous in various ways, from health, tourism, earning, and production. We are excited enough to get support from national personalities.

Vision should be out of sight of others, what they don?t see, we are viewing that, and we are leading on that. It?s probably like a dream and we can?t do at current time. We are marching for a years to come.

Farmers exercise more on process of farming. But on our? Its problem there. Farmers are unhealthier among us

Nepal is signatory to various conventions but policies hadn?t been adopted, implemented. We can see many hazards of chemical in each level. It is affecting each layer from farmers, market leader and consumers.

Many Campaigns had been leading by different organization and we are adding one in this movement.

We haven?t transferred alternative ideas, technology against chemical farmers. So, farmers may not coincide with our thought. But of course we will move on, lead on and get different tools to fight these chemical warfare.

We will move with Knowledge Bank and it will be our weapon to rise on. Video, documentaries, academic materials, case study, writes reports, cartoons, and art. Sharing about organic practice, it will definitely help us. Sharing is caring. We will be celebrating days like Cancer Day, Health Day, Earth days. It will help us to move.

Words From our Guest:

Our guest was Chandra Prasad Adhikari who had been practicing Organic Farming since 2032 B.S but it was chemical. On practice of 14-15 years I came to know negative effects of Chemical Farming. 2049 B.S I started no chemical farming. I came to know about organic in 2052 B.S and 2054  B.S member of Nepal Permaculture Association.

The situation is same, as it exists 20 years back caused due to organic farming. Much policy makes deny the fact that we can move with organic farming. But now policies are in phase of transition and many impacts are coming on the way.

Agriculturist is not counted as technician in general people view. Medicine needs prescription but pesticides doesn?t need though pesticides are poison. Farmers are attracted by chemical advantages in short time. Many ill practices are prevalent. But scenario is changed we have 150 organic farmers among 200 households.

Agricultural Government officials are against the organic farming themselves. We faced many severe downs in our farming due to chemical farming. Also organization that provided loans to farmers went off.  Pesticides were in practice in farmer level, 3 years before it was registered.

So we should change schools from IPM to OPM. Students are major stakeholders. So, organic movements should be lead by us. It can be relief to nation, farmers and consumers. Every people can practice organic farming and its organic in talk, organic in practice and organic in consumption.

People are spraying pesticides and at the mean time they are harvesting it too. They are compelled to do so because if not harvested vegetables would be damaged by night. These all are consequences of chemical practices been practicing since years.

COMMENTS:

CP Adhikari

Yes this movement is going in organized way and as students are major stakeholders. Sure, it will succeed and wish success for the movement. If we move in organized way like this yes we can.

I had seen people being to DAO for organic farming but it?s not sustainable, as they are not organized. I had been working for 25 years and I am not using chemical i.e., it?s totally organic in 1 ha of land. When I am out of home, my mind will be at my home as they are organic. I am thinking of making my village as Organic Village and I am marking my way.

We are moving on fact and moving slowly to achieve and people who know depth of organic farming only wants to take lead. And you guys are here for that. Thanks.

We must make clear difference in farmers mind about organic and chemical farming from ground level. Really we are eating food not poison. Those who practice organic needs to verify their products but those who practice chemically, they are allowed to sell openly. The system is totally opposite.

If we calculate expense and gain, its beneficial than chemical farming.Small things can also be technology, as they will change our action easily. I brought khurpi from US and it can replace use of herbicide.

Rashmi  Regmi

I see both chances. Cause farmers are profit oriented. I see people buying Rs. 2000 on commodities but bargaining in Rs 30 cost in vegetable commodities. Also farmers are not educated and raise self-question to us.

We need to make consumers also aware in these issues.

Amita Pandey

By viewing geography also it helps us to move ahead in organic farming. Yes. We need to go from grassroot level by working with family, samhuha and local leaders.

Aditi Bista

We need efforts at first but yes we can move.

Srijana Bastola

People are more aware than past in case of pesticide farming.  Aware

Rohini Chaudhaey

We need to change trend and we should make them aware about organic farming.

I can do with 2-3 friends.

Samiksha Shrestha

We need to think twice before eating. And yes we can do though digital media.

Bipin Adhikari

It?s not tough but we need time to show them advantages to them in trail.

Arpan Shrestha

Its good work but we need to move on package.

Binod Sunar

It will take time, its like hot issues. We can go by changing attitude. If we do in our local village people believe on change.

Anjali Shrestha

We can go through school to make aware.

Sunayana Rokaya

I doubt on organic farming. Its rough area and normal measures are difficult too.

All Nepal organic is not possible at this time.

Kiran Bishokarma

Yes its possible.

Trishna TIwari

Yes it will succeed. Farmer must believe on organic farming. I can even convince my father in organic farming.

Sujan Paudel

There is problem in marketing in long term. Yes organic products don?t look better but they are best internally. I can support the campaign by deep knowledge in this issue and also through photo, video in social media. Also writing an article can be  better.

Upakar Bhandari

I can do but it takes time.

Shiva Dhakal

When we give suggestion about organic farmers, farmers deny.

Ranjit Khanal

He is working for 25 years and how can I deny the fact. So, it can be possible. We can connect leader farmer and government can also believe on the fact of organic farmers. We can go through virtual world. There are many apps, group and that can work.

Madan Paudel

Its not a one day event, we need to connect stakeholders and move on. We even don?t know facts and principles of farming.  We need to be strong on ourselves and move on. Social media differs a lot. We can move though collective action. Not only liking and commenting doesn?t work. Lets do networking and move ahead.

Well drafted Sujan. Organic Nepal by 2030 is a dream you are living for. God bless & take all actions that lead you to the same.
A small correction is suggested. In the first paragraph of the section of your report titled 'Words From our Guest' the years should be 1932, 1949, 1952 and 1954 respectively. I reckon this as a minor typo only.
