Food Wastage in UAE |

Food waste is a curse to today's society. Food was always known as God?s gift but since the past two centuries, food wastage has been an ever-growing threat . Because of the effects of wasting food, many people are starving. In UAE , over the year about 365,000 tonnes of food is discarded in Dubai – about 12. 5 per cent of the mountain of waste the emirate generates amounting to 2.92 million tonnes. These figures are only one of the emirates (Dubai). Food Waste is not limited to residential homes but hotels , catering companies and schools also generate food waste. Here are the two initiatives/campaign launched by the authorities in UAE to reduce the food wastage . The I?MPERFECT campaign by The Ministry of Environment and Water (2015) It is a national campaign to reduce food waste and increase food surplus The campaign aims to support local food projects and educate the public about the importance of reducing the loss and waste of consumable food by raising awareness among farmers about the significance of harvesting imperfect fruits and vegetables and marketing them in retail stores. ?Heafz Al Na?amah? initiative by the Dubai Municipality (2016) The initiative, which was launched during Gulf Food 2016 . According to this initiative excess food from large banquets and buffets, whether from hotels, weddings or homes, will be packed and delivered to the needy.

Very aptly said 'Food wastage is a curse and an evil'. It must be stopped at all levels in the chain. Thanks for sharing.
