Surabaya, Toward a Green and Clean City |

Surabaya is a city located in East Java, Indonesia. It is one of big cities in Indonesia beside of the capital city, Jakarta. As a metropolitan city, most part of Surabaya becomes resident and commercial area. To maintain green space, the major of Surabaya made a program called Surabaya Green and Clean. Surabaya Green and Clean is a program where many villages try to achieve effective and efficient green space, so the people can live comfortably. ?It will make environment in all through city become comfortable? said secretary of DKP Surabaya. Indeed many villages become more green and clean also many of people become more aware of environment. This program was began in 2005, and still continue. The criteria of judgment are including condition of environment, waste management, and independent society. The winner from this program will be awarded money to do some training or other to improve their knowledge and skills. Until now the participants of this program are almost 21% of total villages in Surabaya. A number which is indicate the awareness of environment from this city. Glad to know about such a nice community based waste management program by local government. Programs like these are really a great way to imbibe environmental values in residents, to keep the place clean and green by involving the residents in a fun filled way.
Thanks for sharing with us about 'Surabaya Green and Clean '. I am sure that the participation % will increase rapidly.

Dear Dewi, thank you for introducing Surabaya Green and Clean campaign. I loved the idea of rewarding the winners and letting them train and inspire other members in the society. I am hopeful the participation increases to 100% in nearby days :)
