2016 Earth hour launch in Vietnam |

In two days 15 and 16, the 2016 Earth Hour launch was held successfully by Ministry of Industry and Trade in two big cities Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. The campaign will continue occurring in many other cities and provinces till 19 March. This big and meaningful event attracted the participation of a huge number of young people and students and many other organizations as well as celebrities like Lan Khue – Miss Vietnam 2015, Ha Okio – famous singer. In the launch, many students will together ride bikes across streets to raise awareness of saving energy among citizens. In Hanoi, some side programs are singing or performing aerobics on Ta Quang Buu Square. According to Mr Trinh Quoc Vu – Director General, Department of Science and technology and Energy Efficiency, the purpose of 2016 Earth Hour is encouraging citizen to do small things to bring great benefit?. Just by saving electricity, water and consuming foods properly, the citizens will contribute so much to help Vietnam develop sustainably. Some statistics show that since 2009, only one hour lights off of Earth Hour campaign has saved Vietnam millions of kWh and this figure is expected to increase this year. It's true that union I power. The government can't do everything alone. The people should participate to the goal of sustainability.

Hi Thao, thanks for writing! and it's good to see you've posted the reference as well :) I think it's meaningful to spread awareness on environment and energy through that kind of international event! Light-off campaign spread all across the globe but I am a bit skeptical whether it really leads to constant energy saving :p

Glad to see that Earth Hour is being celebrated by more and more regions every year. These events not only contribute to the environment but also help raise awareness as well. I really hope such similar initiatives are taken regularly and are conducted on an international level as well.

Thao, thanks for sharing us about 2016 Earth Hour launched in Vietnam! I am glad that you cited the words from Mr Trinh Quoc Vu to give a better understanding, and I always encourage everybody to state their references. If I would like to add just one more thing, it would have been better if you could at least briefly introduce what kind of campaign the Earth Hour is, the background history and the way it is launched. But the other parts are great, so keep up the good work :-)
