Tree Plantation on my Birthday

by Arushi Madan | 26-04-2016 19:27 recommendations 0

We all know how trees help Earth in purifying the air and absorbing the carbon from the atmosphere. Trees are vital. As the most crucial component of our ecosystem, they give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilise the soil, conserve water,  ameliorate the climate and give life to the world's wildlife. They also provide us with the materials for tools and shelter.

We all must plant trees on every possible occasion. Why not celebrate birthdays by planting birthday tree and see your birthday tree growing as you grow. Imagine if each of us plant a tree on our birthday , world will have at least 7.8 bln trees soon. I always plant trees on my birthdays and my parents wedding anniversary. This year in April on my 17th birthday, I planted 17x2=34 saplings to leave my mark( but not the footprint) on my birthday and to make my birthday meaningful .

As usual I felt really elated while planting on my birthday.

I am supporting SDG(Sustainable Development Goa)l 13 "Climate Action" by planting trees myself and encouraging others to do so. How about you ?

Let's think of environment and plant trees ourselves and encourage others too to do so. The state of environment we are in today-it's only the trees that can help us come out of this situation. Trees are the lifelines and lungs of Earth.

Planting 34 saplings was time consuming but because I love it so din't feel tiring. I have been sharing these on FB to encourage others to do so but due to permissions required, I couldn't make it a group activity and have others participation.
All the ones I have planted on my previous birthdays are being looked after well and I visit them regularly. It's good to see them growing. The ones I planted in India are being looked after by my grandparents. The ones I planted here earlier in UAE were at Al Berari Nursery Area(looked after by Al Berari people), and these ones this year are planted in Sharjah free zone and will be watered and maintained by my father's office staff.
There is no point planting trees if they are not looked after regularly so I make it a point to plant them at a maintained place. Thanks.

Arushi, so lovely to see someone planting a tree at his or her birthday! Planting 34 saplings must have been tiresome, but meaningful as well. I am interested how your trees that were planted previously have grown too. Also, Sharing your activtiies on facebook will surely encourage your friends and neighbors to participate as well. Thanks for posting and have a great day!

Happy birthday Arushi! Hope you had a good one :D And the idea of planting trees is so admirable. If it becomes a social trend, i say we would be able to tackle large part of the air quality problems we face these days :D Thanks a lot for posting!

@Bindu: Yes let's try to plant trees ourselves + promote this as much as possible till it becomes viral(in social media term). I don't know why people don't have plantation challenge rather than ice bucket challenge. Plant a tree, take a video, post it and nominate other 4 who will plant too and post and nominate further 4.

Yes Victor, it does make sense. It just takes each individual to plant just one tree on his birthday. This is small effort at individual level but collectively if all of us do then world will have (additional) 7.8 bln trees. Thanks for appreciating.

I am thoroughly impressed by your stand to plant trees on your birthday. It makes sense that if everyone did the same, we would have 7.8 billion trees annually. Way to go !

Way-to-go Arushi! SDG-13 stands as a crucial goal for a sustainable tomorrow. Every human being can use up to 22 trees in their lifetime supply of oxygen. Hence, planting tree saplings on birthdays can effectively benefit our health in one way or another. Hopefully, this noble trend of yours can spread across the international community in coming years. Thanks for the report:)
