|LATIN AMERICA| Endangered Species

by Luiz Bispo | 11-05-2016 10:35 recommendations 0

As people know, various animals become in danger. An indiscriminate action caused by human has threatened many species in the world.  Human activities such as hunting, poaching and industrialization etc make nature not sustainable. Animals have difficulties to adjust to their dramatic changes of habitat.

There is a research created by Cox&Kings to notice the most popular endangered species in Latin America. Follow bellow:

- Sloths : less than 500

- Sea Turtles : only 8,000

- Jaguars : 15,000

- Howler Monkeys : 100,000

- Macaws : 1million

- Amazonian Manatees : less than 10,000

-Short – Tailed Chinchillas : 11,000

Especially, among a lot of man-made factors, habitat loss is the biggest threat to biodiversity.

The howler monkey that lives in the tropical area in Central and South America could not find food due to deforestation, which causes less reproduction.

Fortunately, there are actions to protect these endangered animals.

In 2006, the endangered penguin species from South America (Humboldt penguin, rockhopper and macaroni penguins) was listed under the Endangered Species Act. due to global warming.

Brazilian swallowtail butterfly species failed to be listed under the Endangered Species Act after receiving the Center member's petition in 1994. But in 2004, the Center filled a lawsuit to compel the Service to protect these unique insects.

Really it pains to know that we are responsible for endangered species. Strict laws & stronger enforcement will discourage this for sure.

Luiz, I have read some reports from ambassadors about how poaching is threatening species to become endangered, but habitat loss from human activities also threatens them as well. Not only deforestation, but I also believe the use of pesticides or chemicals can also cause extinction. There's surely a lot to think regarding this topic! Thanks for reporting and have a great day!

Thanks for the report Luiz. Humans would be the most effective detergent on this planet cause we are very capable of wiping out species from the face of the earth haha. But really, more people should open their eyes to the damage we inflict! starting from the little things easily corrigible like groundless superstitions on medicine from particular animals like ivory powder and stuff. Hope you spend your day well!

Well pointed-Habitat loss is one of the main man-made factors leading to endangered species. We or our action must not pose any risk to any wild life. They have every right to live in their natural habitat. Thanks for the report.
