SMOKE PRECIPITATION |
---|
Smoke coming out of the chimneys contain colloidal carbon particles dispersed in air. Since carbon particles carry an electric charge, they remain suspended in air. The charge on the colloidal carbon particles is removed by the use of electrical precipitator.
Thus, carbon particles from smoke get precipitated. Electrical precipitator was devised by Cottrell. In this method, smoke is passed through a chamber. The chamber carriers a knob, which is charged to a very high potential. The charged carbon particles on coming in contact with the knob lose their charge and fall down. The carbon particles settle down at the bottom while the gases free from carbon particles pass out of the chimney. Smoke precipitation can go along way in mitigating climate change and global warming. |

John, smoke precipitation can cause serious air pollution and may emit various pollutants as well. Though a lot of houses do not use chimneys nowadays, I believe it may cause serious problems in certain areas. Thanks for reporting and have a great day!

Very interesting subject and environmental agencies should look more into the matter. You should definitely look more into smoke precipitation, and I can't wait for what you'll be able to write. Thank you for the report!

John-I had read about it in my Biology chapter related to electrostatic precipitation as a way to reduce air pollution by removing harmful gases/particles . Thanks for sharing.
