GREEN GREETINGS ECO STEWADS aka Eco Generation
I am extremely delighted to be able to share the report of my celebration of World Environment Day to you all.
In my hometown Bharatpur sub metropolitan city and nearby other municipalities, we had celebrated not just Environment Day but also Environment Week. The initiation was taken by Bharatpur Sub Metro themselves in coordination of Lions Club of Chitwan Green and Nepalese Friendship Society and sub coordination of Leo Club of Chitwan Central, Leo Club of Chitwan Green and Narayani Public school. We were also supported by Department of Drinking Water Management, Department of Forestry of Chitwan District.
Owing to my hectic examination schedule, I was able to participate at only 5 out of 7 events.
First day was orientation day where all the organizers and interested youths were called upon and informed of the week long celebrations. We also divided the work in the same day. I was able to participate at the event.
On the second day, we have massive cleanliness program from Chaubiskothi to Lions Chowk. The whooping participation of youths and Lions/Leo Club, government officials and Army-Police was applauding.
Third day was plantation day at Kalika Chowk. We planted trees, did some cleanliness program in association with locals of the places. We also disseminated the ideas of our plantation program. I was able to partake at the event.
Fourth Day was yet another ?Cleanliness? Day campaign at different schools of the municipalities. It was cherishing event.
On fifth day, there was oratory competition for school children on national theme. I could briefly participate as I had my exams coming up. I am surprised by the understanding level of these new generation. That?s simply brilliant.
On sixth day, we had ?Awareness and Interaction Program? at Rhino Lake. This was one of the biggest and flagship event. There was whooping participation of many government officials, local bodies, community organization and youth organization. (This even I will cover in my next report).
On the seventh day, there was tree plantation program at Marsyandi. Because of strike and venue being quite faraway, I could not participate at the event.
Finally, come June 5. Our World Environment Day. On this day we had rally and narayani beach Cleanliness Program followed by closing ceremony. District Governor of Lions Club and tremendous participation of Leos and Lions were there along with different aforementioned government organization.
My Remarks Regarding Week Long Celebration:
It was very positive moment. No wonder Chitwan district greening itself. However, I personally felt that our efforts should have been on ?Wildlife conservation? as well. AS Chitwan is rich in biological diversity and home to many rare and endangered species which survive on Chitwan National Park (enlisted in World Heritage Site). Many officers were positive to my comments and apologized for being unable to include our recommended program because of being compelled by complex government policies. However, seeing our feedback being taken positively and their commitment done in front of all of us, I am hopeful we will be soon doing something for Wildlife as well.
And Yes, I got to make two new friend one from US and one from China who came here for voulnteering. YAY!!!!
Everyday is Environment Day. SO CHEERS!!!!
