My hometown has been plagued from time immemorial with energy woes. Most of our electricity comes from offshore grids that connect mainly to government owned hydropower plants and privately held power plants. But this year promises to be better with the improvement of the peace and order situation, economic stability, and potential for investments.
Recently, a group of Filipino, Korean and French investors pledged to develop a string of alternative energy plants to combat this energy shortages. This plants will harness wind energy from the city's coastlines in the form of turbine "farms", solar energy from the scorching hot interior, and biomass obtained from plants. This lofty aspirations for our city might finally save it from decades of neglect that has led to it languishing as compared to other cities here in Mindanao Island, Philippines. The plant in question is touted to be SE Asia's largest solar power plant, costing approximately Php 1.97 billion and able to produce up to 100 MW of energy
And before I forget, Feliz Dia de la Independencia Republica del Filipinas! Para el bien, paz y desarrollo del ciudad y el pais.

Abdelaziz, good news that Phillippines is under those renewable energy projects. I hope wind power could sufficiently substitute the energy demand and reach the global standard. Thanks for sharing, and have a great day!

Anyway, before I forget! I was really amazed that BIOMASS had been considered and included in the program. This only reflects that the people behind this project have good envi sci foundation. :)

The power interruptions in Mindanao have been widely spread in the news, so I see this as a very good step in addressing such concern.Though I have been bothered by the coal fired powerplant, we still need to consider several internal and external factors of the community, such as the dire need for energy. So, I see this program as a very good stepping stone in addressing both environmental and energy concerns. Cheers, Abdelaziz!

That's a good news! Well, i hope the construction inflicts only very minor damage to the natural habitat if it's to be built in those areas :D But anyway, good to know that solar energy will be lighting up many houses of the phillipines, cheers!

Wow, that's great news for our home country. Quite a while ago, the world's largest solar-powered mall was built and can reduce carbon emissions by 2.25 million kilograms. The article: http://business.inquirer.net/210675/210675
Other modes of renewable energy are equally as sustainable though. Thank you for the report!
