On Monday, June 6th, environmental and renewable energy activists and experts gathered to advocate for a stop in the implementation of a coal power plant in Ghana.
By 10 am, we were at the EPA head office in Accra, Ghana's capital city. I was surprise to see environmental leaders from Ivory Coast who had traveled to Ghana just to support us in this very campaign.
The previous anti-coal campaign which I have organized and led had successfully postponed the commencement of the coal project from August 2015 to March 2016. We are of the view that with more people joining the campaign, Ghana will have a no coal future.
Upon arriving at the EPA head office, we sung and attracted lots of staff at the office complex. Using a loud microphone, I led the group by reading out our petition to the staff and employees at the EPA.
Afterwards, we submitted our petition to the EPA - urging them to reject #coal in Ghana. The Deputy Executive Director of EPA was very delighted about our democratic advocacy. He assured us that our inputs will be considered during the review of the proposed project.
Hopefully, there will be no coal in Ghana. I hereby urge you all to stand as youth advocates and a voice for future generations and push government and responsible agencies to consider the environment in their every project.

Heojun, that is very true. We should all phase out coal and embrace clean energy.

Coal is proven to be one of the most contributing factors to air pollution. NASA came to do a research on air quality several weeks ago in Korea. and they announced that the coal generators around the country are considered to have greater impact than previously expected. thanks for sharing!

John, its true that most countries use coal but after COP21, there has been a tremendous change. Coal power generation has recorded low levels for the first time in 35 years. Conversely, renewable energy sector has seen growth like any other energy sector. Coal is phasing out gradually, colleagues.

Adam, we realized that we needed the EPA to influence the decision. That's why we stormed their premises.

Joshua, coal is definitely one of the factors that cause severe air pollution. No Coal movement, in this perspective, may contribute a lot in saving the environment. However, we should also think about the people who originally used coal as energy source, and provide them alternatives before fully banning it. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!

Several countries are still depending on coal as the main source of energy. Hence, I see this movement of yours as a great call of action and reminder of the negative impacts of coal to our environment. So to everyone who participated in this movement, CHEERS!

Thank you for following up on the 'No to Coal' project. As I mentioned before, clearly this will bring big impact especially when in affiliation with the EPA. Congratulations!
