Recycling

by | 19-06-2016 20:32 recommendations 0

Recycling is processing used materials (waste) into new, useful products. This is done to reduce the use of raw materials that would have been used. Recycling also uses less energy and and great way of controlling air, water and land pollution.

Waste Items which are recycled

Plastic waste such as water botlles , plastic bags.

Paper waste such as books , newspapers , cardboard boxes.

Glass waste such as glass jars , glass bottles.

Aluminium waste such as cans.

Need for Recycling

Recycling conserves natural resources

Recycling saves energy

Recycling helps protect the environment

Here are few interesting facts which might explain why Recycling should be done :

In 2010, paper recycling had increased over 89% since 1990.

Recycling one ton of paper saves 682.5 gallons of oil, 7,000 gallons of water and 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space.

Recycling one ton of paper saves 17 trees.

Recycling a single plastic bottle can conserve enough energy to light a 60 W bulb for up to 6 hours.

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to listen to a full album on your iPod.

Recycling one ton of plastic can save up to 2,000 gallons of gasoline.

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for 2 hours.

We generate 21.5 million tons of food waste each year. If we composted that food, it would reduce the same amount of greenhouse gas as taking 2 million cars off the road.

Recycling in India

Recycling in my country isnt being used much . The municipalities of various towns are concentrating more on dumping the waste rather than recycling it.
But there are few companies in the country which are coming forward by buying waste from people and recycling them further .

Here are few companies in India involved in Recycling :

Bristol India

Essco Furnaces p.ltd

Allied International

Thanks tanverjit. Yeah i agree with the two comments you already have down there. More education and campaigns are in order if the system is not firmly implemented. Thanks for writing!

Awareness is first needed for a higher rate of recycling. I am assuming that the severity of the situation is not addressed as well as benefits, therefore people slack off. The government should also enforce policies, events, campaigns, etc. to tackle the issue with the help of its agencies and the public. I hope this is achieved and thank you for the detailed overview on recycling!

Being an Indian, I know recycling is not common there. A lot lot needs to be done to persuade people for recycling and bring in the culture of waste segregation at source, proper waste disposal and recycling. Thanks for the report.
