PHP 2013-003.
That was the code I named for the seminar I organized in Bayugan National Comprehensive High School in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, Caraga, Mindanao, Philippines last July 13, 2013.
It was a usual Saturday morning at the new laboratory of the school, the venue for the event. From the expected 70 or above participants, only 47 attended. The Mathematics Department started their Saturday Mathematics Classes and these made many of the interested students unable to attend the activity. The number of participants was dampened by the conflicting events but not the spirits of those who were there.
We started the event at around 8:30am with a prayer and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. After which, I immediately started with the seminar. Around 10am, our speaker arrived. Mr. Ian Onyot, from the Agusan del Sur Provincial Public Information Management Office came to gave his speech on "Public Information: The Role of Internet and Social Media".
I saved the Tunza Eco-generation presentation at the last part. I knew that the participants did not know anything about this online environmental platform by Samsung Engineering and UNEP. The participants may be young but everyone can relate to issues involving the environment.
I know they can relate for we are children of Mindanao.
Our treasures are our people and our environment. Our city is a landlocked city inside a landlocked province in Mindanao. We do not often see the sea but we are blessed with trees. Bayugan was named after bayug, a tree predominant in the area long ago. Bayugan City is also considered the cut-flower capital of the province.
As I gave the promotional goods, everyone was more eager to listen about the presentation. I showed them the basics about Tunza Eco-generation and how to create an account in the platform.
It was almost noon when we ended. The participants went home and I was hopeful that everyone will be more active in protecting the environment and will make use of the internet wisely.
I hope they will soon create their accounts, contribute to the contents of the website and make Tunza Eco-generation more interesting.
