Global Warming and the UAE |

INTRODUCTION Global Warming is the increase in the world's temperature and changes in the world's climate caused by Carbon Dioxide from our cars, factories and power plants. Many scientists believe that the world is getting warmer and that this will affect our oceans, weather, and agriculture. Some even believe that countries and cities near the coast will disappear as sea-levels rise. Due to this fact, UAE is turning to be an extremely hot country to live in. Global warming has induced tremendous warming in the UAE and the time to reduce emissions is finally here. CAUSES The reasons as to why global warming occurs are plenty. One is mainly greenhouse emissions. Carbon neutral UAE. Imagine a balloon filled with very warm hair? Sadly, that is how UAE is today. The level of global warming in this region is excruciatingly unbearable and if not for air conditioning, it would be hard for the citizens and visitors to tolerate the heat. Environment in UAE has a lot of rehabilitation to do go through, and this might take ages due to the rapid level of development that is taking place on the side. The age of industrialization has contributed severely to high level of air pollution. This is a unfavorable and unfortunate negative issue that those living in the UAE are facing today. if you consider the other different reasons as to why global warming occurs, the most general one is deforestation. Deforestation is the most powerful reason as to why there is an increase and accumulation of carbon dioxide on the earth?s surface. As a result of the wide expansion and growth of man?s business activities, construction projects and development of infrastructure, most rainforests are replaced by commercialized areas that let out carbon emissions very bad to the environment. Trees are necessary to absorb carbon dioxide, and without them it becomes tough or an impossible job to do so. Amidst all the selfish business activities, one aspect that deserves a pat on the back is the green nurseries located in UAE. These educationalists dedicated towards inculcating a sense of priority towards the environment are doing a commendable job by educating the young ones to take care of the earth at least in the next generation and the dire consequences that will be faced as a result of an imbalanced ecology. IMPACTS Some of these negative effects of global warming are weather patterns which will guarantee scorching hot and dry temperatures, and in worst cases, cause drought and increase the risk of wild fires. Drought can cause vegetation to fail, cause starvation and diseases in under developed countries where the main source of food and income is agriculture, and heavy rainfall and flood in areas that are on the other side of the imbalanced ecology. As man continues to pollute the air, our health becomes a serious problem, exposing us to viruses and serious illnesses. The existence of air borne diseases can be highly hazardous for us and those of the next generation. Another disadvantage that is so unfavorable is the extinction of species. As our nation strives hard to build a fully industrialized and urbanized city with all sorts of high end facilities to it, we sometimes never consider the importance and balance of Mother Nature. Most of these negative effects of global warming are the weather patterns which will guarantee scorching hot and dry temperatures, and in worst cases, cause droughts. Scientists predict that sea levels will rise, which will affect our coastal cities, natural habitats (such as corals and mangroves). Temperatures will also rise and this will bring more extreme storms, flooding and droughts. As if it wasn't hot enough here already? Freshwater will also become scarcer and many of our unique wildlife in the desert, wadis and the sea could disappear.But by taking action now, we can make a difference. We all have to work together to reduce our consumption of energy before it's too late. EFFORTS The UAE has welcomed the historic global pact to fight climate change, signed by 195 countries in Paris.The deal, signed by 195 countries after two weeks of talks in the French capital, sets a framework that will contain periodic reviews and assessments to ensure that countries meet their commitments to curb carbon emissions.It is the first such agreement that calls on the world to collectively cut and then eliminate greenhouse gas pollution.As technology advances, targets can be updated over time. The agreement also calls for supporting the most vulnerable nations as they pursue cleaner economic growth.The aim of the deal is to keep global temperatures from rising another 1C between now and 2100, a key demand of poor countries ravaged by rising sea levels and other effects of climate change.And the UAE?s chief climate change negotiator, Majid Al Suwaidi, said the emirates welcomed the agreement, stressing that the UAE had already been taking a positive approach towards cutting emissions as part of the country?s plans to diversify the ecomony. UAE being one of the highest producers of oil in the whole world, it is so evident that carbon dioxide accumulation leading to global warming are mostly caused by energy emissions. But I would appreciate the government of UAE which is doing all it can to stop the emissions for example, they are adopting to the sustainable energy technologies, commercializing emissions reduction, clean development mechanisms by Kyoto protocol, boosting institutions investing in renewable energy technologies and products, the smart city strategy, all these are aiming at reducing the emissions which are the major causes of global warming. But I think sooner if these strategies are put into practice the global warming and its effects will dwindle down. Thanks for the article.

global warming has now become a worldwide problem and we need to act before everything gets out of hand i really commend UAE for its efforts on trying to reduce causes of global warming

Other countries that have similar geographical areas and situations like that of the UAE should definitely follow the country's footsteps. As seen by other Tunza Eco-Generation Ambassadors from the UAE, many initiatives from recycling to biodiversity preservation have been made. Thank you for a detailed report!
