Disappearing cities

If there is a huge development project, some small villages will be gone, and the villagers got compensation over that. But, some American cities will be gone not by development but by climate change.

A new climate report tells which U.S. city is in imminent danger.1,400 cities would be submerged by 2100, even if carbon emission stopped right now.

Ben Strauss, one of the scientists in this report, conducted the study based on the fact that every degree fahrenheit of global warming due to carbon pollution contributes the rise of global average sea level by around 4.2 feet in the long run. To consider the current rate of carbon emissions and the best estimate of global temperature to pollution, he predicts the sea level is rising about one foot per decade.

Galvaston, Texas will be underwater by 2030Norfolk, Virginia and Coral Gables, Florida by 2044.

And the Kivalina, Alaska, home to 400 people, will be under water by 2025.

California Representative, Henry Waxman, told the news that climate change is no longer an issue for later. Climate change is already affecting the United States and the window for effective action is closing fast that We must act now to protect the planet for our children and future generations.

I had been to Galvaston, TX several times. The city is home to many popular family attraction. I cannot imagine in thirty years, those will be just memories. The weight of one conscious small deed per day which could help stopping carbon emission weighs even heavier than ever before.
