The Beach at Gyeongju |

Last weekend our family went to Gyeongju, a historic city which was a capital of Shilla, a country that lasted for more than 1000 years, in southern Korea. Most of the city is designated as a UNESCO world heritage, and it is always bustling with tourists visiting old temples and tombs. However, our family was not there to see the historic sites but actually enjoy nature. So we took a 30 minute drive and arrived at the sea. A lot of people visit this area only to see the Tomb of King Munmu, which is virtually underwater and surrounded by rocks. Yet this is not the only thing that is unique about the sea near Gyeongju. As I said before, a lot of people just visit this place to look at the historical sites, and the beach is unpolluted. Trash is scarce, and the sea is crystal clear without any plastic bags or styrofoams floating around. Furthermore, the seashore is dotted with rocks, which is home to various creatures such as crabs and seashells. We took a trip and walked between these rocks, and we were able to observe small crabs crawling around. They were walking so quickly that it was even hard to take a picture of them. There were also clams with shells shaped like the turtles? backs. The picture of them is below. I hope the next time someone gets a chance to Gyeongju when they visit Korea, you should also visit the gorgeous beach instead of just visiting the historical sites. You may be able to enjoy the tiny creatures! |
