Popular Environmental Organizations in South Korea

by | 20-09-2016 23:40 recommendations 0

There are lots of environmental organizations in Korea, all attempting to make a better community, a better society, and ultimately a better world. Below, I've listed some of these organizations.

  1. Open Hands: This is a non-profit organization, driving to save lives and impact people through providing clean water. They help people in the Philippines, especially those living in the slums of the community. Their main job is to create filters and deliver them to the people in the Philippines. Most houses in the Philippines have a medium-size water container thus, simply by combining the container to a filter, the inhabitants can easily obtain clean water from dirty water.  (http://openhands.or.kr/en/)
  2. Green Future Campaign: This organization focuses on educating future generations and finding solutions to create a better environment for future posterity. They mainly research about water, climate change, fine dust, and ecology from a future perspective. They hold many sessions for students in Korea so that they can be future environmental leaders.
  3. Korean Federation for Environmental Movement (KFEM): This is a civic environmental organization, active both regionally and internationally. It is the largest NGO in South Korea and addresses environmental problems (climate change, renewable energy, nuclear power operations, etc.) through campaigns and also interacts with the government to prevent harmful acts from being passed. (http://kfem.org/)
  4. Korea Mountain Preservation League: There are many mountains in Korea. This league is a NGO, who's main goal is to preserve mountains and their environment. They lead campaigns, hold educational sessions, and frequently go to clean mountain trails.
  5. Korea NGO's Energy Network: As an NGO, this group strives to conserve energy and holds campaigns to raise awareness regarding this subject. The group also works to create laws to build a low-carbon society.

Above are only some, of many, environmental organizations in South Korea. As seen, there are groups for both regional and international purposes. Mainly, for regional organizations, groups work on the conservation of energy and dust (since China dust is a major problem). On a global scale, most Korean NGO's focus on providing clean water for countries in poverty.

Thank you!
