Automobile pollution in Cameroon in relation to EPA (Economic Partnership Agreement)
It?s exactly two months that Cameroon has ratified the EPAs and for sometimes now one of the most flourishing businesses in Cameroon is car selling. Everywhere there are vehicle, car fleets etc.
This Goes without saying that in the upcoming December would be difficult for this state due to congestion of the various sea ports mainly Douala with lot of contenair full of cars.
This brings us to a crucial question: of preserving the environment. Looking at the number of cars entering the country we are tempted to affirm that, all our efforts would be reduce to nothing because most of the vehicles which have entered into service in Cameroon are still using fossil fuel therefore increasing the level of CO2 emissions in our cities.
According to Cameroon?s customs statistics, car imports has increased that?s,33000 cars in 2010 and 37000 in 2013 which equals to an increase of over 4000 cars and in their forecasts, by the end of 2016 this number would triple.
If we duel on the energy source used in those various cars we can note that
- 1gram of petrol used equal to 3.09 grams of CO
Released in the air
- 1gram of diesel used equals to 3.16 grams of CO2 released in the air.
For more informations on how to know the number of grams of CO2 released in the air

Transport is one of the sectors causing pollution everywhere. Great report

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Tchaptchet! In addition to what other ambassadors have commented, I also agree that the increasing number of cars do not always imply the negative impacts. If the cars can be replaced with energy-efficient ones, or public transportation, it may bring positive effects in the end. Thanks for spending your time, and have a great day : )

Though the effect is yet a meager contribution to the overall reduction of emission, thanks to the widespread electronic gadgets and apps, more people are intrigued to use share-economy services. Also with the advent of electronic cars, I think it's not senseless to say we will have a good chance of living in a world with less pollution from the traffic. Thanks for sharing your idea!

One or easily way to solve this is through introduction of excessive tax on the importation of cars, this would results into few private cars and that would be a good chance for the government to put more emphasize on public buses.

In most of the countries, chunk of carbon emission/pollution is contributed by traffic on roads especially private cars. If people use more and more of public transport or even share cars, it can reduce the problem but everyone wants to ride his private car without bothering about environment. Government too is not coming up with ways to take care of this issue(growing no. of cars on the road). Thanks for sharing.
