What is heat?

by Xilola Kayumova | 13-10-2016 03:04 recommendations 0

Cut a piece of clay and hold it in your hands. Its cold, right? Now, roll it in your hands for about 2 minutes. Feel the clay again and tell me, is it warm or cool? Where do you think the heat came from?
Think of the kinds of food you like to eat. Before and after eating, you must wash your hands. Do you prefer washing your hands with icy-cold water or normal-warm water?
Pretend you are in a forestand are very hungry, you only have 1kg of raw meat. What do you need in order to cook the meat?
Long ago, people thought that heat was a liquid, which has the feature of moving from one thing to another. By this day, we all know that heat comes from atoms and molecules. For example, when atoms and molecules start moving fast in the air, days get hot and when they slow down, days get much colder. Many people dont know that heat and temperature are two different things. Heat is energy in motion, the enrgy that causes things to become warmer. Temperature is a measurement that indicates how hot or cold something is. Heat comes from fires. It also comes from sunlight. The light coming from the sun is the heat you and I can feel. So, it is very important in all of our lives.

Thanks for the brief report on 'Heat. Heat is important for all living beings, it is important for germination, for our body, for cooking, infact in every aspect of our life. It plays a significant role in various important manufacturing processes.

This is certainly an interesting take on heat. It is simple, clear and easy to understand. However, heat is one of the many forms of energy. Heat is energy that spontaneously passes between a system and its surroundings in some way other than through work or the transfer of matter. When a suitable physical pathway exists, heat flows spontaneously from a hotter to a colder body. Methods of heat transfer are conduction, convection and radiation. There are many ways of measuring the effects of heat on a body or substance, one of them being calculating the change in temperature of that body or substance. Also, how hot or cold a day is doesn't depend on movement of atoms/ particles, but rather on the earth's position from the sun (different places will have different weather patterns due to their different positions on the earth's surface), atmospheric conditions and the ozone layer, amongst other factors.
