It is the work called "Turning the landfill into the flower garden" that Youth Union from Resources and Environment Service has been performing.
"Only people who witnessed the landfill in the past could deeply understand this meaningful work. From my perspectve, the youth has put a great deal of effort into cleaning, flattenning out and growing trees, flowers. Additionally, there are seats and 2 waste bins within the park. Seeing such a nice view, no one would even dump trash here again." - encouraging compliments from Mrs. Thu, whose house is near the new park.
Now, the park has been taken care of by local citizens thanks to the "green" message delivered by the young. Mrs.Thu also mentioned that everyone would spend little of their time on looking after the garden without being told. They just automatically replace dead plants with new ones. About Mrs.Thu, she herself also cleans the surroundings of the park together with her yard in order to keep it tidy enough.
Other than that, the flower park at the end of Ngo Van So Street (District 4) also represents a brand new image, which is totally the oppposite of the old landfill. The walls that were once full of rubbish have gone.
The parterre was built with the help of volunteers from Resources and Environment Service.
A citizen expressed: "No matter how minor this "green" space is, it undeniably beautifies our local urban area. I did not expect such a little method to have such influences on people's ways of thinking."
The idea of turning the landfill into the flower garden won the second prize in the Youth Innovation Competition 2016, held by Science and Technology Centre in Ho CHi Minh City just a while ago. It was not just an idea, in fact, these young people put their idea into practice and presented it at the competition with a view to getting others involved in this activity throughout the city.
How to maintain these beautiful flower gardens? In respond to this question from the Judge, Chau Ngoc Cam Van, the representative of the team, stressed that with the solidarity of local demographics, landfills could no longer return and give out bad images of the city.
"These flower gardens will always be kept beautiful so long as local people are engaged in acknowledging the importance of environment and supporting "green" activities, together with trash bins with helpful messages attached to them." - said the representative.
