Environmental Education at Lorrenel Charity School |

On the 19th of November, I went to a charity school with my colleagues at work to educate students on the 5Rs = Recycle, Reuse, Reduce, Recovery, and Refuse. These 5Rs of minimizing waste are essential for everyone to accept and practice. The school Is a charity school and runs of charity and finding support community. Although situated in Accra, (capital of Ghana), the school lacks basic necessities and spending time with these children was an amazing moment for them and myself too. In their situation, I could not have talked so much about recycling – since they will not have any role to play in that regards. Instead, I focused on the other 4Rs. Clearly, the kids understood reuse, reduce, refuse, and recover. My colleagues who are from outside Ghana, also appreciated their time with the students and motivated the students to study hard and keep their environment clean. There were about 150 students. We organized a drawing competition for the lower class, and a quiz for the upper class. Through the exercise, we were able to conclude that everything thing we have taught them that day has really settled in their minds and that they will practice it. Also, we taught them how to use plastic waste to make football nets and pencil holders. I led the team to present our lovely eco-bag to the founder of the school and the proprietor. Also, we shared Tunza souvenirs to the students and promised to raise funds to support their institution. |
