In an effort to curb the plastic pollution , on of the startups in India "EnviGreen" has come up with a great solution .
The startup has come up with the plastic which is fully organic , biodegradeable and eco-friendly. The plastic is made up of a combination of 12 ingredients, including potato, tapioca, corn, natural starch, vegetable oil, banana, and flower oil, that looked and felt like plastic, and the best part is that it is edible. Yes , you heard it right. The plastic is edible and can be easily disposed off by eating since no chemicals have been used in it .
?People were concerned bout how they would carry products from the market now. Everyone cannot afford a bag worth Rs. 5 or Rs. 15 to carry a kilogram of sugar,? said the EnviGreen founder Ashwath Hedge. It took four year researching and experimenting with various materials to get the output, after this the mixture of raw materials was turned into liquid state and then taken through six-stage process to create the bags. The price of the bags are 35% higher than the normal plastic bags but it helps a lot to the environment which is pricless . The bags are fully biodegradable and it takes less than 180 days for it to bio degrade , but for quicker biodegradation the bags can also be kept in water and the bags will dissolve in it .
The bags have already been approved by The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) after conducting several tests and the company has set up its factory in Bangalore .
At present 1000 metric tonnes of eco-friendly plastic bags are being produced in a month.
The production is pretty less at the moment but Hedge claims that he wants to set up enough production facilities before they start distributing to individual customers and shop owners.
According to the Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, over 15,000 tonnes of plastic waste is generated in India every day, only 9,000 of which are collected and processed. Inventions like EnviGreen can help solve this problem, so let?s hope it lives up to its potential.

@heonjun the plastic bag takes 2-3 days to dissolve in water if its the room temperature so theres no issue taking it out in the rain , and talking about digestion there wont be any issue in it since alll the tests have been done with it and also its made of only edible stuff , also the paint used on these bags is organic.

Thanks for sharing Tanverjit! Only 35% higher price than the other bags is not that much i guess. I wonder what that taste like. also, doesn't the bag melt when it rains? I'm guessing it has to be soluble to be okay for digestion.

Plastic bags are causing a great deal of pollution to the environment. They can neither be burnt or buried safely. Their cheap and organic alternative is ought to be found soon.
