Events in 2017 that deserve more attention |
---|
Now that 2016 is finally coming to an end. we should finally reflect on how 2016 was and think about how we can make 2017 even better.
2016 did have important environmental events such as the COP22 in Morocco and the World Water Week in Sweden, but according to my opinion, I believe the following events mentioned below should deserve more attention in the future: 1. Local youth mobilization events: It is not always possible to attend an international event in another nation and certainly it is not always the best way to make regional changes. But organizing and attending local environmental events is much easier and these programs have the scope of mobilizing the community on a local level. 2. Environmental education events: More and more educational institutes are starting to consider the importance of Sustainable development in the children's education process. Including things like the importance of renewable energy and ways to reduce pollution can actually help to develop future eco-leaders through this process. 3. Simulation events: Simulation events such as Model UNs are very popular because they allow young people to experience diplomacy and advocacy very easily. Model COP 21 simulations are also becoming very popular as well. All in all, the events mentioned above deserve more attention because it has a massive potential to engage, empower and mobilize youths. These events have the scope of developing the leadership potential of young people so that they can become future change-makers. Hopefully these events will get more attention in 2017 and make it a year where more progress is made towards having a sustainable world.

Hi Syed. I think you are actively engaged with all that three points, seeing from your reports :D but you're right that public awareness of environmental problems could be more widespread. Thanks for your continuous participation this year and hope you achieve what you wish next year :D

Thanks for summarizing major events in 2016, Syed! I agree there are more educational programs founded as time goes on, which I believe is a very positive phenomenon. I feel very gratified that a lot of ambassadors are willing to devote their time and energy to such volunteer works. Thanks for sharing, and have a great day!
