Mentor an environmentalist, build a sustainable future

In my strategy paper, tittled "Youth in Agriculture Mentorship Strategy for Sub-Sahara Africa, I talk about the importance of mentorship as a tool for sustainable intensification and development of the agricultural sector in Sub-Sahara Africa. In a generalized manner and approach the basic principles in light with sustainability apply not only to the agricultural frontier when it comes to the ideals of mentorship. Future environmentalists require mentorship too.

When a lot of people hear about mentorship, the word itself lead them into thinking that the endeavor is either complex or difficult. But the truth of the matter is that mentorship is a very simple endeavor, one that only calls for one better endowed with knowledge in a particular field to have the will to teach another who is less endowed with the same knowledge. At the end of the day it is a matter of will driven by passion, which by virtue of being ambassadors, I believe the will to make a difference is perhaps at the highest peek in our blood.

That we are ambassadors therefore is a surety that we are more endowed in knowledge and experience regarding issues to do with our environment be it at the local or global level. I am convinced by this, that if we are environmentally aware as we are, such should be in itself a natural call to mentorship. All it takes is a simple encounter with one who has interest in the same issues about the environment to create a mentorship relationship that will develop to infinity.

My appeal therefore is very simple, we are future leaders and environmentalists as ambassadors but there is a limitation that comes with humanity, mortality. To keep the flame of environmental awareness, education and pro-activity alive I cannot think of a better way to do it, than to mentor someone who has the same potential or even greater than that we have.

To every ambassador this is my challenge, ask yourself
Have I mentored an environmentalist who will help us and be the future of environmental sustainability?

If the answer to that question is NO, we ought to deeply self-introspect and ask ourselves why we have not taken a bold step in the direction of mentorship

Thanks for sharing, Saymore! I also wish all of our ambassadors can become mentors to a lot of people. Being a mentor may be very simple than we think we may encourage our neighbors to participate in initiatives or practice environmentally friendly activities in daily life. Thanks for sending us such valuable message. Have a great day :)

Its quite a satisfying feeling to realise that I have mentored many youngsters and contributed in converting them to active environmentalists or eco warriors. Very well written report with a great message. Thanks.
