Hello Friends!
Today I share with you the developments that took place after two ships collided with each other causing oil to spill.
The ship BW Maple, a LPG tanker, smashes the petroleum tanker Dawn Kanchipuram at 17kmph, only two nautical miles off the Kamarajar Port at Ennore close to Chennai at 4 am on Saturday. The collision ruptured the water tank and a part of the crew-cabin, while additionally snapping the fuel pipeline. Fuel oil started to spill into the ocean even as Ennore port authorities sprang into action.
2. January 29: By evening, fishermen in Ennore, Kasimedu (Coastal shores of Tamil Nadu) and adjacent fishing harbors report gigantic patches of oil slick floating by the seashore. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board reviewed the damage inflicted to environment and marine life. The Indian Coast Guard begins cleanup operations to remove oil from the ocean after an aeriel survey.
3. January 30: The Coast Guard remove 5 ton of thick oil sludge from the Ennore shore at Rama Krishna Nagar Kuppam beach.
5. February 1: The Coast Guard removed another 30 tonne of oil. The Coast Guard assesses that another 20 ton of oil still should be removed from Ennore shore alone, making it an aggregate of 70 tonne of oil from the spillage. The actual data is yet to be announced by Ennore port. The Tamil Nadu government says fishermen will be affected by the oil spill for about 10 days and pledges to compensate the fisheren.
6. February 2: Coast Guard proceeded with the cleanup operations. The situation is reviewed and reporters are invited to travel with Coast Guard Officials on a ship.

Oil spills are being a major concern in most of the coastal area. Some measures beed to be taken.I have learned about some biotic bacteria that can control such spills.

Glad to see people like you highlighting this issue since a large percentage of the media thinks of it as a worthless piece of news that would fail to gather much attention.

It's sad to know. I was following this news and read that this oil spill threatens India's nesting turtles. As a matter of fact, it has been threatening marine life in the ecosystem. Hope for minimal damage. Thanks for sharing.
