Visit to Muday Charity Association in Addis Ababa |
---|
On the 1st of April for the first part of my Eco-Generation events, I visited Muday Charity Association, located in Kotebe area of Addis Ababa. The association is a charity association established by Mrs. Muday Mitiku and gives care for less privileged children and single mothers. The association rents a compound and accommodates over 380 children and some single mothers. The association's unique way of approach to helping people is that it helps the mothers find a way of supporting themselves by training them in various skill works. Among the activities that the association does for mothers is that the association has a few shops in the front side of the compound where it sells various items such as traditional hand works which are made by the mothers themselves the first batch of mothers are trained by skilled workers and later on the trained mothers train the new mothers. In addition to this, Muday Charity Association also does various environmental activities. It has a small garden where it grows different vegetables for their own consumption, which has influenced the resident children in an organic and healthy way of life. Muday has also participated in a tree planting event at Gulele Botanical Garden for the World Environment Day on June 5, 2011. What inspired me to visit this association is that it has a diverse approach to helping children and mothers. This week was the association?s Love Week, where many people from around the city were given the opportunity to visit and spend time with the children. Upon my visit I provided the promotional goods (rulers) to the coordinating staff to distribute them to the children as it is a policy of the association that all items should be distributed to the students via the staff and not directly by the providers. The association can use any form of extra help and for those interested in visiting or helping Muday Charity Association they can be reached through the following: +251-911718205 or mudaymitiku06@yahoo.com – Mrs. Muday Mitiku (Founder and head) +251-937989898 – Ms. Aster (Association Staff) For the coming Saturday, I plan to discuss about environment with a class of 3rd grades in Addis Ababa, as a continuation of this week's activities. |

Hello Dawit, thanks for sharing your experience!
I was really impressed by what Muday Charity Association has been doing so far:)
Why don't you have more activities with students there related to environmental issues?
Thanks again for the report!

Dawit, thank you for your report. It is amazing that this Association has its own garden and grows vegetable there. I hope it gets bigger so that it can enlarge its garden as well. Although not many people today grow their own vegetable I believe it worths it. I wish to read about your discussion this week. Please tell us how it was.
