When John Major (British politician who served as thePrime Minister of the United Kingdomfrom 1990 to 1997) set up Britian's global warming strategy 25 years ago, the doom-mongers said it would ruin living standards. New research shows how wrong they were.
UK has proved that Green Economy is progressive and successful.
As I am unable to share the link so I am just pasting the article published in 'The Guardian' newspaper, written by journalist Michael Howard. Its worth a read and worth an applause for the UK.
This was a controversial statement at a time when solar energy, for example, was a costly technology better suited to spacecraft than British rooftops. And indeed the argument can still be heard that reducing greenhouse gas emissions will ruin our economies – even that it will return us to a pre-industrial living standard.
A quarter of a century later, the approach that we took has been richly vindicated. As research published on Monday by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit demonstrates, in that period the average Briton has grown richer faster than citizens of any other G7 nation at the same time, his or her carbon footprint has fallen faster than in any other G7 nation. While it would be stretching reality to argue that Britain's economic success has been driven by its climate change policies, no one can seriously argue any more that our climate policies have generated economic harm.

Arushi, thank you for your report. It was interesting and at the same time made me go on some thinking. Personally it is sad that environmental initiatives have to wait for a long time before it is proven to be right or wrong. Britian's global warming strategy has been proved to be right, but I believe there are numerous initiatives proved to be false after a long time and then usually they are criticized harshly. I think John Major was a courageous, brave man.

Arushi, Thank you for shaing such an inspiring article!
When it comes to climate change issue, people are always concerned about economic growth, or at least feeling doubtful about it. But now, UK can be great example of not sacrificing the other, and even making sinergy out of it.
