"Mottainai"-This Japanese word is a keyword for green living. The meaning of this word includes the meaning of reduce, reuse, recycle and respect for natural environment. For example, when someone throw things which are still available, we say "Mottainai" in Japan. Wangari Muta Maathai, an African woman who received a Nobel prize in 2004 for her green activity, was impressed by this word and said "The idea behind the word 'Mottainai' is based on the appreciation for the nature." When you find someone who throw something available, please say "Mottainai" and tell them the importance of reduce, reuse, recycle and respect for the nature. Since natural resources in the world are limited, we have to recognize the importance of the spirit of Mottainai. We should use things as long as we can, and be careful not to waste resources. Say "Mottainai", and save our earth. reference: http://www.mottainai.info/jp/ |
