Here in the city of Abidjan lack of water is becoming a serious issue. As I stated in one of my previous articles water could be at the source of social tensions if this issue does not find solution as soon as possible.
In fact, the 6th March, in one of the commune of Abidjan named Yopougon located in the north of the City. This popular commune is one of the place where scarcity of clean water finds its best definition. People are unable to get clean water from their pipe, they can lacki clean water for at least three months and when they get access to it, then it is for only three days. In these conditions, they are obliged to walk for kilometers to buy a gallon of clean water. Therefore, the persistence of this situation resulting in the strike of the women of that commune whio gathered in front of the company in charge of providing clean water in the country. They words were '' We want water, we are tired''. One of the demonstrator who was approached revealed to the journalists that he no longer believe in the company that provides water and that is tired to wake up since several months without water. This situation of water is progressively getting many areas.
Our government should take the time to understand that the sector of water could no longer be monopolized by only one company. We need several company that can work in the sector of water production and this is what will surely bring professionnalism and quality in the production of water in Ivory Coast. Otherwise, this strike could just be a warning of what could foolow if the problem is not resolved as soon as possible.

Yes you are right dear Prayash, but the problem with us in Ivory Coast is that the scarcity of water comes from the fact that there is only one company tht should do the work to provide water in a country of 322.000 KM square.

Well water scarcity and lack of clean water is being seen in many places of the world. Proper measures like rain water harvesting, purification of impure water, solar cleaning of water anddothers need to be done.

Hi DAON NA. The monopoly was formed at the beginning of the independence of our country. It is a sort of political favor made at that time which can no longer work today. because the population is growing very fast and is becoming more and more demanding.

Hi Frederic, thanks for your report on water shortage problem.
I wonder how the monopoly formed in the beginning. Is it because of government regulations or low profitability of the business itslef?
Thanks again for your article!

Frederic, thank you for your report. I never read about a strike that is broken out because of lack of clean water. Your report was very interesting therefore. So how is the situation with the strike now? I wish you could write a follow-up.

So sad to hear this. A similar situation is witnessed in some areas of Nigeria although in our case we have several rivers which people fall back on when clean water fails to come. The government really need to do something about it.
