April First Report: Environmental Talks with 3rd Grades (Yehidar Tis)

by | 15-04-2017 16:50 recommendations 0

Hello Everyone, Sorry for the late report.

This month I wanted to report about an interesting topic I discussed this past Saturday (8th April) when I talked to a class of third grade students in a school called Yewetaoch Genet. I talked to them about the environment and what possible ways there are to protect the environment.

An interesting traditional topic I would like to share with everyone today is Yehidar Tis. Yehidar Tis is a traditional Ethiopian custom where on a day in the month of November people take out their trash and pile it up, and after making piles they burn the trash (nonflammable) in belief that the smoke from the trash will clear the air from harmful deceases.

Although the beliefs that the smoke clear?s out all the deceases in the air is not strongly believed as before, it is still practiced as a tradition, it is also helpful as all the trash of neighborhoods gets burnt the city becomes more clean for a while.

At the end of my visit, I distributed the Eco Generation rulers to the students, which they were happy to receive as it was helpful for their Math?s classes.

For my next Eco Generation activity in May, I am planning on working with a club on their environmental activity, which I will be reporting about once the activity is done next month.

Dawit, thank you for your report. Yehidar Tis sounds like an interesting custom and I wish to see some pictures of it! You seem to be highly active with carrying out environmental activities. Keep on working and articles with respect to traditional customs that are related with environment are always welcome.

Hi Dawit! Thanks for sharing meaningful experience!
It is hard to stop the traditions all together even if there is clear rationale behind it.
In that sense, what you're doing is of great importance because children are one to make change in the future.
    Thanks again for your effort!

    Hi Dawit
The article is very gratifying, when talking with all the boys and rescuing their points of view of how they intend to confront the world problem in the environment, also the beliefs and cultural realities are part of a development although they should be diffused with more objective to the preservation , Traditions are the basis of the whole human structure and this allows us to build the progress of the same.
Very good ... good omens in the following activity
