Planting 66 Million Trees in 12 Hours

by Sudarshan Sreeram | 15-07-2017 22:19 recommendations 2

If everyone plants at least one tree, we would have over 7 Billion new trees and that could solve most of our environment problems. Planting a tree helps to reduce global warming and climate change.

One of India's commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement was to increase forest cover by 2030. Last Sunday, (02/07/2017)* over 1.5 million people from the state of Madhya Pradesh came together to participate in the plantation campaign led by the state government. Last year, India set a record for planting 49.3 million trees in the state of Uttar Pradesh in 24 Hours. This year, 66.3 million trees were planted in 12 hours!

The Madhya Pradesh Chief minster said that by planting the trees, they are not only serving the state of Madhya Pradesh, but the world at large. Care for the sapling after it has been planted is very important, so when questioned about this, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh replied by saying, "Aftercare is definitely more important and we hope to ensure that as well with the efforts of all those who planted the tree. It is not a government initiative alone, it is the commitment of children, youth, and active junta of MP." The Indian Government has encouraged all 29 states to increase forest area and has agreed to spend 6.2 Billion Dollars to reforest 12% of the land under the Paris Climate Agreement. According to this, by 2030 India should have increased area under forest cover by 235 million acres.

I am proud to be an Ambassador and citizen of this lovely nation.

Very well written bro, it is heartening to know that a developing country like India is working stead-fast to reduce global warming and climate change through afforestation and is setting an example for other countries to follow. The title of the report is very eye catching. The benefit of planting trees should be new to no one, but is the most important method of solving most of our Earth's environmental problems. The figures mentioned are inspiring and I as an Indian am also proud of my nation. \(o.o)/

Sudarshan, thank you for your report. This is a simple, yet amazing achievement. Isn??t there a name for this action? What is the exact plan? How much space does the government plan to cover? I wish India succeeds in its attempt and other nations learn something from this attempt.

Hi Sudarshan! Thanks for sharing your report on tree planting activity in India.
That's really amazing not only in the number of trees, but in the number of people who joined in this activity:) I wonder how could the government persuade that many people to participate.

First of all, I like the inspiring first line of your report. It is so true and I have myself been saying this to everyone during my 'Birthday Plantation' campaigns that each of us should plant a tree at least on our birthday, soon the world/earth will be greener/richer by 8 billion trees which is great for small efforts from each of us.
Last few weeks, this nice advertisement on TV regarding MP government's tree plantation drive, has been catching my attention. It is really a nice initiative by the state. With such drives by MP, UP and other states, India is fulfilling its commitment to Paris Agreement and is enriching and improving the local and global environment. Thank you so much for sharing the update with lovely pictures. Keep writing such reports.
