Clothes and environment

by Nanami Nishihara | 16-07-2017 08:37 recommendations 0

Did you know your clothes have big impact on the environment?

For example, a pair of jeans needs 3,625 litres of water, 3kg of chemicals, 400mj of energy, 13m2 of harvested land.

This article is not about Japan but I was shocked when I know this fact and I just wanted to share this issue with you!

Here are some tips for you to know more about this problem!

Thank you for bringing this up, Nanami. Who would have realized that what we wear and what goes into making what we wear, negatively impacts our mother earth? The statistics mentioned are shocking and it is good that this topic is being discussed on social media, online courses and platforms like TED.

Nanami, thank you for your report. Lots of things now a days have huge impact on environment. People are surprised to get to know even everyday supplies could be harmful to environment. You have mentioned here about clothes. Recently we get to read a lot how fashion brands try to protect environment. I am sure that is because they know how harmful clothes could be to environment.

It's indeed good to know the resources used up in making clothes we wear so that we wear them with appreciation and become more mindful in not wasting /discarding them after few wears. Thanks for an interesting and informative piece, Nanami.

Hi Nanami, thanks for bringing up important issue! As you said, producing goods such as clothes and other commodities in our life consumes a lot of energy as well as creates tons of wastes. I heard that one of the SPA brands organized campaign to collect clothes and recycle them. I will check out the link! Thanks:)
