Overview of Urban heats Island

by | 20-08-2017 04:33 recommendations 0

Speed urbanization today is not happening without consequences. But what is amazing is that this urbanization affects other areas which are not part of the urban sphere of action. What does it then mean urban heat island.

According to Matt Rosenberg " the building, concrete, asphalt, and the human and industrial activity caused cities to maintain a higher temperature than their surrounding countryside, this increased heat is known as urban heats island". Based on this definition, we understand that the industrialization and other human activities in the city create more heat in the air of the city while other areas near them are not undergoing the same heat. Matt Rosenberg even states that the air in an urban heats island is 11degree celcius more than the surrounding areas. What are then the effects of this kind of situation.

Of course, the first problem is that to face an urban heats island problem we will need to overuse energy. In fact, we have to use huge amount of energy. The second effect is obviously that we are obliged to increased our pollution. This pollution undoubtedly will conduct to climate change and this will affect the health of our earth and its people. It is therefore, important to find solutions to this growing scourge which can be an obstacle to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Hi Frederic! Thanks for sharing your report on UHI in your country.
Just like global warming is not restricted to the countries who contributed to it, urbanization can ultimately be spread to other areas. I'm curious to know which measures your country is taking to solve this!
