Pollution has been affecting the environment and our lives, all across the world since we existed. Up to date, a variety of hazardous and toxic substances from different sources are intermingled in to the nature and causing all kinds of pollution, from the sky above, to the floor of the ocean. Yes, the ocean, the place where 97.5% of the most important natural resource for life is. Not only for drinking, but we also need it for cooking, washing, irrigation, and, basically everything has something to do with water. The contamination of such an important essential is easily done by industrial waste, domestic waste, toxic chemicals discharged from factories, pesticide used in agriculture and other remain of used commodities have been getting discarded into rivers and oceans. If the Greek myths are true, than we would already have been punished by Poseidon, the god of sea. Contaminated water has become a serious threat to human beings, aquatic creature and land creatures. ?What are the effects of water pollutions?? (Like we wouldn?t already know). First, the economy will become less profitable. This will happen when the water reduces the number of fishermen to sell or export their catch outside our country. This will make some big changes especially on my country?s economy, Malaysia. Second, the number of aquatic creature will decrease. Not only affects the economy, endangered aquatic species and the upcoming generation are also threaten. Talking about the effects on animals, all organisms depend on surface water sources. They breathe using water to get oxygen from it. Polluted water will give them many effects on their health. Results of the dying of many fishes that will disrupt the food chain in the water. Third, the effects on vegetation affect crops and reduce the fertility of the soil. Polluted water may contains some pathogenic bacteria which cause many diseases in the cropland. It also results in destruction of many useful bacteria and other microorganisms in soil thereby reduce its fertility. We shouldn?t be selfish. Water pollution will not only affect us, but the entire functioning ecosystem.
