Forest are the most important resources to our ecosystem. The sustainability and conservation of forest determines a huge deal of countries economy. Forest has a direct relation with the farm household, livestock, economy of farmer, industrial input, etc. A slight imbalance in forest ecosystem has proved to the cause of many disastrous At present most of our forest resources are being declined, either due to man or natural causes. Deforestation is increasing at such a high rate that desertification may be the only future, we will ever have. Realizing all of this many nations have done a great deal in increasing their forest area and conserving the existing one. Many different measures have already been practically applied but only few have seen to be long lasting. In this scenario Nepal has developed and proved and excellent way of increasing its forest area, that is worthy of being proud about. During 1990 the rate of deforestation in Nepal was 1.7% per year and the forest cover decreased to about 30%. The foremost cause of forest decline was population growth, forest fire, increasing clearing for urbanization and industrialization and many more. A joint five-year survey conducted by the Department of Forest Research and Survey and the National Forest Products Survey Project in between 2000 to 2016A.D , shows that of the total 147,181 square kilometres area of Nepal, forest area makes up 44.74 percent. Of it, 40.36 percent is covered by forest and remaining 4.38 percent is scrubland. So what was the major cause of increase in the forest area?. And most of the researchers have proved that the major cause of this miracle is the introduction of " Community Forest Group". Community Forest Group is a renowned participatory forest management approach being adopted in Nepal. As of 2011 about 2.1 million household i.e. 40% of the country population are managing 27.4% of country total area i.e. 1.6 million ha of the country's national forest through 17,645 Community Forest User Group(CFUG). This approach has included many families in the conservation as well as utilization of the national forest. Another popular approach in Nepal that has proved to be beneficial is Leasehold Forestry that protects 38778 ha of national forest with 6712 leasehold forest group. It simply gives national forest to public or private groups on lease for a certain period of time with the only requirement that they need to conserve and protect it. So, in my opinion Nepal has been doing in managing and protecting it forest through means of collaborative conservation. And I think that similar approach can be practiced by others too. |

Hi, Prayash! Thanks for your report on Nepal's efforts to halt deforestation. It was great to read about Nepal's different ways of protecting and building up its forests. I think Community Forest User Group(GFUG) is suitable for citizens who care about the environment to take voluntary action. Leasehold Forestry seems even more well thought out, with benefits for both the leaseholders and the forests. The leaseholders can use the forests for their needs (as long as they don't cause any damage), while the forests can be well-kept and protected. The money earned from this can also be used for the forests as well! Nice work on your report!

It's really nice to read about Nepal's meaningful approaches toward deforestation. What they've been practicing called 'collaborative approach' exactly shows how to keep a balance between utilization and protection of forest resources. Nepal can utilize their forest so to develop their society economically, but as you already mentioned, infrastructure enlarged in a complicated way through industrialization derive following effects like excessive population or deforestation which could affect negatively on their society. And I think that's why the balance between smart utilization and protection of the forest is needed. I think Nepal is on their way to practice it. Thanks for your informative report!!

We are proud to say that the percentage of forest coverage is increasing in the recent decades. But, the forest area of southern plain Terai is decreasing day by day. In my view, the solutions for this problem could be 'Strict plans and policies implementation' and 'propotinate distribution of population.'

Action plan and policy for Forest and Rangeland management such as encouragement of community in forest management, improvement of rangeland management, reorientation of forestry research, improvement of basis of land utilization for more economic return, creation of awareness of importance of forest conservation, minimize adverse environmental impacts of forest related projects and promotion of research and development of alternative of energy sources are the basis for greenery in Nepal

Nepal is developing in forestry sector to a great deal. The country has become the paradigm of Green conservation, i think all the developing countries of south Asia should follow Nepal.

Yeah your report is short and nice with some relevant informations, umm Nepal has been managing and protecting forest but still rate of wildlife discrimination is not minimized yet, government launch law but itself protect people who go against it..
Its a great thing that we are second richest country in natural resources and comminuty forest group is really doing great to explore green more and more which can be a good lession to other countries but yet we need to take care of wild animals which are in vulnerable state.
Thanks for you wonderful report.
