PESSTICIDES AND ITS EFFECTS

PESTICIDES ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN HEALTH
Pesticide is a mixture of substances used to prevent the growth of weeds, insects and pest. Thus, it is the chemical combination of a herbicides and insecticides. Chemicals have been used to control pest around 4500 years ago. A compound derived from dried flowers of Chrysanthemum cineraria folium has been used as insecticide for over 2000 years. Some parts of the world were using salt or sea water to control weeds.
Without pesticides, food production would be lower,  supply will also lower and as mankind can?t live for number of days and population increasing rapidly especially in Africa,  hence going to increase  food. Competition in global market is going to be less and developed countries exports would drop leading to shut down of many jobs. Price of farm produce would also increase.
Upon this benefits, pesticides can be harmful to both the environment and human. When pesticide is sprayed on weeds , small amount of the pesticide will be on target. The rest of the quantity will be off target , the quantity may touch a different species like an ant and others or the environment which may cause injury like genetic disorders and can reduce the life span in the long run.
Acute health problems may occur in workers that handle pesticides such as abdominal pain,  dizziness, headaches, nausea, vomiting, as well ad skin and eye problem. In China, an estimated half million people are poised by pesticide every year, 500 of whom dies. Insecticides commonly used in bug killers can cause a potentially deadly condition if breathed in. Multi university research team in Toronto concludes, ?people should reduce their exposure to pesticide because of link to serious illness. Results of this study found consistent evidence of  health risks such as cancer, nervous system disease and reproductive problems in people exposed to pesticides. Similar research has linked exposure to pesticides to increased presence of neurological disorders ,childhood leukemia, lymphoma, asthma and more.
Progressing to organic repellents or logical step to potentially help reduce the chances of disease or disease acceleration.

Hi, Abass! Thanks for your report on pesticides. I liked how you introduced the different types of damage pesticides can bring about human health. I think a safe solution would be to use alternative methods of farming, such as organic farming, or develop pesticides that aren't as harmful to the environment or health. What alternative methods do you think that we can use to replace chemical pesticides?

Absolutely agree with your opinion! Even though pesticides show a great contribution to agricultural productivity and development, we have to figure out alternatives to do farming in more environmentally friendly ways. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for telling us both pros and cons of pesticides. It's very important we should have balanced information in every aspect of the environmental issue. Nice report.

True! Pesticides have a lot of benefits to farmers but there are biological means of pest and weed control and I think more money should be spent to develop this area. Nice report, Abass. If many farmers know the harmful effects of pesticide use, I am sure they will be willing to embrace an alternative.
