New Year is an event that is celebrated worldwide. There are a lot of activities have been done to wait and welcome the New Year. People would come together and play with firework, or have a party, and even do a barbeque. In Jakarta, Indonesia, many places are used to celebrate the New Year eve, such as at the National Monument (Monas), Old City as well as Ancol beach. The local authority also closed the Sudirman – Thamrin road, the main street in downtown Jakarta for street festival. People enjoyed seeing the fireworks together at these places while letting the time strike to midnight. Unfortunately, after all these celebrations, a lot of trashes follow in its wake. It was reported that the celebration of New Year in Jakarta has accumulated 780 ton of trash. These trashes comes from every corner of Jakarta, where the total of trash this year has increased from last year's trash which was 700 ton. But even so, before 06.00 A.M. in Jakarta's time, every inch of the city has returned to being cleaned. This is due to the help of merchants, goers, and especially the cleaning staff. After the people have started to dissolve from spots of festivities, the trash cleaning proses immediately began. The cleaning proses this year was relatively helped, since the cleaning staff had handed out 10 thousand trash bag to the merchants and goers. A lot of trashes were already gathered, so it made cleaning easier. Meanwhile for the roads, the officials had used 30 unit of Road Sweepers so that the cleaning proses could be done quickly. Celebrating New Year comes with an abundance of trash. So, whilst celebrating it, always remember to throw your trash in the rubbish bin. Lastly, have a Happy New Year and enjoy the holiday season to all of the Eco-Generation community!
