Water is one of the most important materials that will absolutely needed by every living creatures and their bodies. As a living creature, human needs to consume several litres of water every day. Human is not like other living creatures that can drink any kind of water they find in front of them, human needs clean water to be digested by their body. However, as result of the planet Earth's transformation lately, clean water is no longer an easy thing to be found around us. Followed by the rule of economics, when there is a huge amount of demands but the amount of supplies is remained or even more likely to decrease, the price of the goods demanded will absolutely increase. This is what happened to the clean water lately. People need to spend a huge amount of money annually to fulfil their personal needs to consume water. It seems like there needs to be any innovation and movement should be done to reduce the societies' annual expenditures to consume water especially in Indonesia. Last Saturday, I went to my friend's house in the heart of Cirebon city. I met him after months we do not see each other because I was moving to Malaysia. After staying there for around 30 minutes, one guy that rode a motorbike suddenly came in and began to introduce himself to me. I did not know who he was, but later I found out that he is one the social activist from Yogyakarta who was born and raised in Cirebon but is currently pursuing his bachelor degree in Yogyakarta. We began to talk about social problems in Indonesia. Then he started to talk about one project called the "Project Child" who is currently organised by his colleagues.
He explained to me in detail about Project Child, which then triggered my sense of curiosity to find out more about this project. So basically, the objective of this project is to provide clean water to the societies or reduce the monthly allowance burden for the societies to afford clean water. However, their initial target is currently students in Yogyakarta. This project is not something new in our life, this project basically about providing water purification system to each public school in Yogyakarta. In Indonesia, we have widely known about the machine called pure it that was promoted by Danone, however the price is not that affordable for most Indonesians. So, this project was created to accommodate that issue.
Project child, is collaborating with German based technology company named Nazava. Both parties are designing a simple system and prototype to purify tap water. The design was basically only 2 buckets that were installed vertically, where the top part contains the non-purified water and the below part stored the purified water. Both buckets were connected by purify system provided by Nazava. The design was extremely simple, because they want to push the amount of money needed to produce the prototype. They also provide offerings to firstly check the chemical substances of the water so that they could decide which purification filter needed to be implemented based on the water quality in the area. They also offer assistant to check the water quality every 2-weeks and help to maintain the quality of the purifier as well. Based on their calculation, the amount of money needed to keep run the usage of this system is not as much as buying 2 bottles of mineral water every day. Every student only need to spend around 500 Rupiah or around 0.04 USD per-day to help the maintenance process of the system.
The project is currently only being organised in Yogyakarta. They began to expand their coverage to the other areas in Indonesia. One of their expected area to expand their coverage is Cirebon. Even though this kind of idea is not something new our current societies, but in Indonesia, this technology is not something common especially in the area outside our capital city Jakarta. I hope, this project will continue its program through every part of Indonesia, so that everyone can get cheap clean water every day.
If any of you interested in finding out more about this project you may find their Instagram accounting @project.child or access their website on projectchild.ngo

Hi, Rheza! The water filtration systems that are being distributed by Project Child look very simple, affordable, and easily portable :) It seems like it will be possible to easily distribute and install these filters in many schools, and at a fairly low cost! It was great to hear about such an important project that is providing clean drinking water to public schools. Thanks for your report!
