In relation to this month¡¯s article topic of what we can do [as youth] to save the environment, I have decided to research and share to you some very easy and practical ways that we can do to save our planet, even on just a small, personal scale. I hope that this article will help you act towards our planet¡¯s greater good. Choose to buy locally-produced food - This reduces the demand for food produced from far away from your hometown which requires a lot of resources fuel (transportation) as well as packaging and preservation if they come from far away. Turn of lights, electronics, and other energy consuming devices when not in use to reduce wasted energy in our homes Buy only as much as you will eat - This reduces the amount of wasted food that is thrown away from our homes, from restaurants and fast-food establishments. Let your hair and clothes get dried by the air (Avoid electric dryers) - This practice is better for both our clothes and our hair, and will also decrease the energy that we use in our day to day lives. Use cloth or fabric towels instead of paper sheet towels. - This eliminates and lessens the waste we produce in our homes after drying our hands or some utensils. As a young teenager, I have to admit that I do not follow all of these steps religiously, but I am definitely trying these out to have a more positive impact on our planet, even as a regular student. I hope that these easy steps will inspire you to change your lifestyle by just a little, for the sake of our planet. Hi, Carlos! Thanks for introducing ways in which we can make better choices for the environment in our daily lives. I especially liked the first one :) Buying foods that have been transported long distances - in other words, foods that have high 'food miles' - means that more fuel has been used and more emissions have been produced in the process of providing the foods. Also, as you mentioned, foods that are transported long distances tend to require more packaging and preservatives, which are also additional resources that are being used. Choosing to buy locally grown food over imported food is not only resource-saving and good for the environment, but also good for the local markets, helping them prosper. Thanks for your report!
