What We Can Do for the Environment - Final Report

by Jiwon HAN | 06-03-2018 21:10 recommendations 0

As youth, there is no doubt that what we can do is very much restricted, and the society views us as students to prepare for what you must do. It is all the truer for Korean students as we are put through very rigid education program in hopes of going into university. But this is not to say that we cannot do anything to impact the world in a positive way. As many of our fellow delegates introduced to us how we could act to save the environment, I wish to introduce an inspirational teenage environmentalist that we could all set for a role model.

Danny Seo (Korean name: Seo Jiyoon), was born in 1977 in Pennsylvania under Korean parents. At the age of 12, he convinced seven of his friends to form an environmental campaign ?Earth 2000? to stop his village from developing the forest. Since then, he ignited a campaign against the manufacture of animal pelts and dissection experiments in primary schools. His efforts showed in numbers, as Earth 2000 gained more than 26,000 teenagers and was given the honor of being the biggest teenage environmentalist group.

Danny gained public attention as a young environmentalist and became known not only to the U.S. society but all over the world. In 1995, he was chosen as the ?youth of the year? in the ?Who cares? magazine. The ?People? magazine also chose him as one of the most beautiful person in 50, and also received Schweitzer human dignity award. Recently he is working as a CEO in a company working towards recycling and eco-friendly lifestyles. (Source: Naver Encyclopedia)

I believe that the efforts of the youth sometimes have more impact in the world for our voices are tend to be viewed as pure and untainted. As I age, I am strongly affected by the notion that the youth symbolize the inner conscience for humans. I hope that all our Eco-generation members can use their youth in a meaningful way.

Perhaps to those who haven?t noticed my subtle implications in the first paragraph, I am in fact a member of the 19th Eco-generation ambassador. Eco-generation has allowed me to write my final article despite my term ending. It has been a wonderful experience for me, to participate in Eco-generation activities. Though my term ends now, I will try to keep track of our amazing efforts. I wish you luck to all of the 20th Eco-generation ambassadors!

Hey Jiwon! I actually did notice that you are infact an ambassador for the 19th annual ambassadorial-program! Though I've been active for several months, I find your articles to be most informative and insightful!
Danny Seo is an Eye-opener, a true embodiment of environmental conversion. He is one youth that many can look up to for inspiration!
I wish you all the best for the future!
