Good News: Ecotourism is booming.

With summer fast approaching, the urban and rural population coming in droves to enjoy the heat and waves at the nearest beach. Whether it is for a long vacation or even for a day?s relaxation, many people prefer the convenience of using plastic cups, utensils, straws and plates during their stay. As such, the summer is also high time for marine pollution to be surfing the waves.

The accumulation of marine debris is not only harmful for the sea creatures themselves, but even for their homes. When plastic cellophanes are stuck in coral reefs, it affects the occupants as well as the abode.

Luckily, there are efforts made by local government units here in the Philippines to prevent and mitigate pollution in the beaches. A recent morning report stated some vacation spots in the Philippines that are strictly implementing CLAYGO, the 3Rs, segregation and even attempts at a plastic ban. One of the caretakers were interviewed and she said that they take time to explain to the guests the policies they have to lessen the trash that they have to clean up as well as how to be environmentally friendly whilst they enjoy their vacation.

As of the moment, there are many ecotourism spots in the Philippines and are doing their very best to employ the best way to attract visitors as well as t educate them about how to conserve the beauty and majesty of Mother Earth. Here is a link to some of those areas: http://insights.looloo.com/10-ecotourism-destinations-philippines/

Such policies require experts? opinions and strict regulation and implementation however, once executed, we may be looking at an income-generating industry in the Philippines that does not severely harm the environment and may in fact, help preserve it.

    Hello Shania!
I've just read your report about the bust of the Boracay beach and its effort to repair it. As Philippines' beach being extremely beautiful, lots of tourist visits the place as vacation approaches. However till now, too much visitors resulted pollution especially in the marine system. So it is a really good news to hear that ecotourism is on the way to save the beach and tourism at the same time.
    Thanks for the nice report~~
Will be waiting for the next news!!
