Deforestation in Canada (The Facts)

by Chabala Chisenga | 08-04-2018 04:35 recommendations 0

Good Evening Fellow Ambassadors and Members as well as the visitors.

Since the early 1990s, there has been a focus on
conserving Canada?s boreal forest and
sustainable economic activity within the entire
region. The Canadian boreal is largely intact and
available for multiple uses like timber harvest,
recreation and hunting. Forestry companies are
using practices known as eco-system based
management, which takes into consideration
criteria and indicators for sustainability – social,
economic and environmental. Forestry
companies now have specific legislation that
must be followed, while working on public lands.
These companies must ensure that the land that
was harvested for timber is fully
regenerated. The companies must also submit
all of their plans for forest manangement and
harvesting, to the provincial authorities. As a
result of growing public concern with sustainable
development and conserving the integrity of the
boreal forests, conservation initiatives are
progressing on various fronts. The area in
national and provincial parks and protected
conservation areas is approximately 10% of the
total boreal area. Most large forest products
companies now practice sustainable forest
management - they manage the forest
ecosystem in a way that maintains and
enhances its long-term health.
- Climate change is a change in the average
weather that a given region experiences. Climate
change on a global scale includes changes to
temperature, shifts in wind patterns, and
changes to precipitation. Canada's average
temperature has risen about 1 degree Celsius
between 1950 and 2000. Winter temperatures in
Alaska and western Canada (including Yukon)
have increased by as much as 3-4 degrees
Celsius in the same time period.
- In Canada deforestation has become a big
problem for several reasons. One is that we only
use a small portion of the tree and then discard
the rest of the tree. Secondly is that when we cut
down 25 million trees only half of the trees are
being planted back into the environment.
- In Canada about 25 million trees are cut down
each year to make paper product and other
products. When a tree is cut down to make paper
only some of the tree is used and the rest is
discarded. For paper production the main part of
the tree that is used is the trunk, because it is
the easiest to obtain large quantities of wood
pulp.
- Canada joined more than 190 countries in
Cancun, Mexico, for the United Nations
Convention on Climate Change. During the
process of deforestation, the machinery that is
used emits pollutions into the environment.
These pollutants add to the problem of climate
change. As a result of this, countries are
working to reduce the emissions that are
produced during deforestation. Through
education, Canada and other developed
countries can assist those developing countries.
- Deforestation has become an issue in
Canada for several reasons. When trees are cut
down in order to produce paper products, only a
small portion of the tree is used for
the production. The remaining parts of the tree
(bark, twigs, branches) are then discarded. This
is an example of waste. In addition, trees are cut
down and then transported to other places
around the world. Although this is a economic
gain for Canada, it can be an environmental loss.
ut down trees and then ship them to other
places around the world.

Hello Chabala, it does have a vast field of trees in Canada that is responsible for making enough oxygen to Earth.
However, apart from its conservation initiatives, it is under heavy assaults such as climate change and wildfire that is triggered by artificial activities.
Though we live far from the land of trees in Canada, we are responsible for the conservation of the field and keep up with their environment.
Cautions are not irritating, but they are 'compulsory' for us to keep our attention on such issues.
Thanks for sharing your precise report about Canadian forest issue!

    hello Chabala,

it is true that when we cut
down 25 million trees only half of the trees are
being planted back into the environment, we will end up having a desert place or let me say the degraded land only, i hope you know that forest help in land restoration and reclamation.
to any country not only CANADA, will have the same problem of degraded land if they do not care much to plant more than what they harvest.

thank you for sharing this, keep it up!

    Hello Chabala!
Deforestation is a serious issue that every living being should be aware of. It is always nice to hear about great management which able the win-win in nature and human purpose. If he use of nature is inevitable, than I believe that some caution should be done to make sure the environment is still in good hands. These cautions could be made by good management which considers every affect that human being can cause through their action.
Thanks for sharing the news with us!!
