Hey guys! My name is Rock Lee, a student in Bangkok, Thailand. March?s topic was ?Water and Wetland? and I?m going to introduce about Thailand?s wetlands! Thailand has 14 sites appointed as Ramsar Sites(Wetlands of International Importance). Let?s look at several famous wetlands in Thailand. Tale Noi Non-Hunting Area is a protected freshwater wetland located in southern Thailand. The name ?Thale Noi? translates to ?little sea? in English. It is one of the largest freshwater lakes in South East Asia and was internationally recognized as a biodiversity hotspot because of its suitable breeding habitats that thousands of birds use. Don Hoi Lot is a reef off the coast at the north tip of the Bay of Bangkok. This site has the largest population of razor clams or also known as ?worm shells?. 18 birds and 42 invertebrates are recorded at the mudflats and mangrove forests. Don Hoi Lot is a hot place for tourists. They can enjoy shell digging and shopping at seaside markets. Mekong River is a river in Southeast Asia. It?s the world?s 12th longer river and it runs through lots of countries including Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar etc. Mekong basin is one of the richest areas of biodiversity in the world. Only Amazon has a higher level of biodiversity. It has 20,000 plants, 430 mammals, 1,200 birds. Also, for thousands of years it has been an important transportation for people in South East Asia. I hope you guys learned a lot about Thailand?s wetlands! I just introduced you about 3 wetlands that are famous! Thanks for reading this article! Photo Copyright: Paul Sharman Outdoors
