Hi everyone! My name is Lisa Zaretskaya. I would like to draw your attention to my 7th report related to RIVER, WATER POLLUTION IN TAIWAN. Last month, with students from Tamkang University, we began our ecological marathon. The 3rd and 4th lectures were devoted to river and water pollution in Taiwan. The students, whose name were Sveta Pei Hua and Berta Chen, told us about the problems of the river and water pollution in Taiwan.Taiwan is a small and populous island with a lot of factories, factors which have placed a heavy burden on the environment. Rivers in Taiwan do not have strong self-cleaning and assimilative capacities and are therefore polluted to different degrees. To improve water quality, the EPA (Environmental Pollution Administration) has initiated various programs at different stages. For example, according to these programs, the government removes the pig farms from the basin of five rivers, compensates the farmers, and removes illegal metal processing factories at the source of Erren River. To continue the improvement of the water quality, the government created the plan which involves: (1) Strengthening pollution control (2) Improving the quality of rivers (3) Protecting the sources of drinking water (4) Cleaning the garbage in rivers (5) Educating and encouraging public participation, and so on. Thank you for your attention. Our marathon will be continued?? |

Hi Elizaveta!
Wonderful presentation/lecture you attended and it sounds like it was very informative and an an eye opener as well. What was done, at the catchment basin when they removed the farms and closing down the illegal metal factories was big leap for water pollution reduction and protection.
Furthermore, I strong concur that the plan for awareness about the water situation in Taiwan should be established and also maybe have a detailed plan of how they are going to insure river water quality.
Or maybe you can aid them with ideas, who knows )
Great Article!

Hello Elizaveta, I do like this successive series of Tamkang University project. Each theme and debate campaign are covering the most important fields of environmental issues, and your reports remind all of us about various issues that we can easily forget (sometimes).
Mentioning EPA and other relative responsible plans were really good in this report.
Procedural approach with keen analyze makes a report better!
Keep up with your work!

Hello Elizaveta!
River and water source is a vital factor for living beings to survive. And it is nice to hear that some programs are initiated from the EPA to recover the rivers for clean water!
