Introduction: Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on 15 June. It is a day for discovering wind energy, its power and the possibilities it holds to reshape our energy systems, decarbonize our economies and boost jobs and growth. It is organized by EWEA (European Wind Energy Association) and GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council). It is a day when wind energy is celebrated, information is exchanged and adults and children find out about wind energy, its power and the possibilities it holds to change the world. In association with EWEA and GWEC, national wind energy associations and companies involved in wind energy production organize events in many countries around the world. In 2011, there were events organized in 30 countries, on 4 continents. Events included visits to onshore and offshore wind farms, information campaigns, demonstration turbines being set up in cities, wind workshops and a wind parade. Many events happened on Global Wind Day (15 June) itself, but there were also events on the days and weeks before and afterwards. In 2012 there were 250 events around the globe and a very popular photo competition. Thousands of individuals are involved in the production of energy from the wind, but for many people, wind energy is a mystery. Global Wind Day is the day when you can visit wind farms, meet experts, attend events and find out everything you want to know about wind energy. Global Wind Day is a coordinated action between Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), WindEurope and the national associations to introduce the general public to wind energy through a series of activities. In the run-up to 15 June, hundreds of public events will be held all over the world from family outings and wind farm visits to seminars with experts and leading industry figures. About Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC): GWEC is a member-based organization that represents the entire wind energy sector. The members of GWEC represent over 1,500 companies, organizations and institutions in more than 80 countries, including manufacturers, developers, component suppliers, research institutes, national wind and renewables associations, electricity providers, finance, insurance companies and law firms. Our mission is to ensure that wind power establishes itself as the answer to today?s energy challenges, providing substantial environmental and economic benefits. GWEC works with national and international policy makers and industry associations to help open new markets for wind power i.e. UNFCCC, the IEA, international financial institutions, the IPCC and IRENA. GWEC has a proven track record of success in helping to build the wind power industry in emerging markets around the world, including Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa. About WindEurope: WindEurope is the voice of the wind industry, actively promoting wind power in Europe and worldwide. We have over 450 members, active in over 50 countries. In addition to leading wind turbine manufacturers, our membership encompasses component suppliers, research institutes, national wind and renewables associations, developers, contractors, electricity providers, finance and insurance companies, and consultants. WindEurope actively coordinates international policy, communications, research and analysis. We provide various services to support members? requirements and needs in order to further their development, offering the best networking and learning opportunities in the sector. Hi Bharat!
I have not known, until today about the World Wind Day and the fact that it is celebrated. It should be stressed that wind energy is an important resource and can, if exploited to its fullest capacity, help alleviate the use of nonrenewable resources.
Lovely report!

Hello Bharat, we do have a lot of environment-relative celebration/commemoration days.
I did not know about this one, but now I grasped the meaning of GWD for us. :)
Thanks for letting us know!

Hello Bharat!
Wind energy is one of the representative renewable energy of this era. Though the efficiency isn't high as much as other fossil fuel plants, it surely has its own advantage as it is renewable, eco-friendly. And with the fast developing technology it surely seems to become a major force in the energy industry!
Thanks for sharing :)
