The Compromise of International Environmental Law

by Ishimwe Eric Josue | 22-07-2018 02:10 recommendations 0

Think of the world in which there are no rules and regulations, it is nothing more than being a jungle. The world where everyone live for today, and do not know how to make it through another day. In environmental context, it is the worst thing beset by climate changes as well as its associate effects. Some nations are struggling to boost their economies; others are facing destructions, disasters, droughts, floods etc. Some of them cares others do not cares, they agree to disagree to protect their personal interests. We live in such a world we messed up everything.

Policy guidelines in the essence of international environmental law implementation must take into consideration different aspects for its feasibility. On the top, there is the dissemination of international environmental regulations to address the social, economic and environmental issues. It is not an easy task to make due to its complexities; it requires general agreeable standard, because all nations have different economic goals as well as interests. Policies that are feasible in wide economies might be inappropriate in narrow ones as well as the arguments on how far they can go.

Drawing on my country as a case study, according to Rwanda Environmental Management Authority with regard to the protection and management of natural resources and environment. By 2020, the number of people engaged in primary agriculture will drop from 90-50% based upon on the effective and updated regulations established to enhance the protection of environment and sustainable management of natural resources. The worst environmental based diseases reduced by 60%; and from 94% to 50% of the wood-based national energy disappeared.

They recognize youth and women for playing a big role in the process to attain the above-mentioned projections. The policies will also be mobilized within all education fields as well as integrated within development programs that improve community's welfare. When we talk about community development and poverty reduction, they are the outcomes of good environment that contributed to the economic growth. Mainly in Rwanda, the poor are mostly environmental degradation dependent yet they are the ones mostly affected by its associate effects. Therefore, environmental sector is regarded as a centered point of rural development and agriculture transformation in Rwanda. But it might be a different case in Uganda for example or any other nation.

States perceptions carry out an important role in the essence of international environmental law establishment. Considering difficulties and complexities of this issue with regard to the attached sectors of development, and different driven interests, it was revealed that it is not an easy way to go and the more rigidity it become; the more it will discourage some nations to make a move. Therefore, overseeing organizations should make the law more flexible and adaptable depending upon different nation's needs and situations.

    Hello Ishimwe
Laws are essential in bringing order in to the world. As the report says, without law, this place will be a jungle. However it is also right that laws should keep the flexibility do that it embraces the differences of individual nations!
    Nice report :)

Hello Ishimwe, since individual countries do have their own methods and standards to meet the need of international environment laws, it is reckless to force the common laws to all the countries. Common but differentiated law compliance must be implemented.
    Thanks for your report!
